Welcome to Our Site

Little kitten

Cavan SPCA is a small but active member society of the ISPCA. We have found in the last three years our workload has increased quite dramatically - we hope this is as a result of better awareness regarding animal welfare rather than an increase in neglect.

We work closely with our two ISPCA Inspectors, local Vets and Garda and we also have a good relationship with local media.

We have run a Cat spaying/neutering scheme for the past 5 years, this proved so successful that last year we introduced a similar scheme for dogs. We believe this is the only way that the huge problem of unwanted cats and dogs can be successfully addressed.

We fundraise on a regular basis with events such as Flag Days, Open Farm days, Dog Shows, Auctions. We have a Dog Walk planned in Cavan on Sunday 25th March, leaving at Cavan Pet Clinic. Our Annual Dog Show will be held in August at Beechlane Equestrian Centre. Last year we had enormous entries for beautiful sponsored prizes.

We deal with all kinds of neglect and cruelty locally - the past two years has shown an increase in the reports of neglect to horses, we feel mainly due to the large numbers of these animals being bred without proper knowledge and facilities. Our main areas of work remain with unwanted and neglected cats and dogs.

We would like to thank both the Department of Agriculture for again giving us much needed funding for 2007 and for the first time Cavan County Council has given us €2000. Also, with the Anglo Celt newspaper, we manage to make the public more aware of the animals that need rehoming.
